{ The Problem }

This meat packaging customer implemented a new automated label application system which presented a series of challenges for label application. 1) auto-application took place inside a freezer with a huge fan; 2) application at high speed; and 3) the applicator couldn’t read clear labels. Typical freezer adhesives aren’t very sticky, so as quickly as the applicator might be able to slap the labels on, the fan would blow them off. And that’s assuming our customer could get the applicator to take the clear labels in the first place.

{ The Primeflex Solution }

It took some testing and research on our part, but we got it done. We chose a long-wearing adhesive with a higher tack (super sticky stuff) to make sure the labels had a chance to grab in the high-speed, big fan environment. Then we hit the clear label with a double bump of opaque white and a layer of black behind the printed image to fool the applicator into accepting a clear matrix.

8 colors: (4 color process + 1 PMS + 2 bumps of opaque white + black on back liner) + gloss laminate, printed on clear polyester with a special freezer adhesive.
